Overview
Safety Awareness Campaign
As an art director at French | West | Vaughn, I worked on several key NCDOT safety initiatives, including Booze It & Lose It, NC By Train, and Watch For Me NC. Watch For Me NC is a safety program focused on reducing collisions involving pedestrians, bicyclists, and motor vehicles, which account for 15% of traffic fatalities across North Carolina roads. NCDOT turned to FWV to create a campaign that would raise awareness of these issues while educating the public on state traffic laws. Partnering with copywriter Steve Olshansky, we drew inspiration directly from NCDOT's annual injury and fatality stats, letting those sobering figures shape a compelling narrative designed to grab attention and save lives. In crafting the visual direction, I wanted to illustrate the constant connectivity between pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. By pairing continuous line-drawing animations with a seamless one-shot video sequence, we highlighted the split-second micro-moments that occur on the road and the devastating impact inattention can bring. We partnered with Dash Studios in Raleigh to bring this visual concept to life. Final deliverables included paid social and audio streaming ads, TV and radio spots, sidewalk decals for local markets, and a custom sand stamp used in high-foot-traffic coastal areas.
